Lovely pub to finish a long hike, the staff are really lovely and went out of the way to accommodate us and our dog! Friendly fast service and the food was delicious, great portion sizes too! Highly recommend
Really nice pub, with incredibly friendly and welcoming staff. Good range of beers, and a decent menu. The food was delicious, the service first-class, and they were not stingy with portion sizes! Unsurprisingly, it was busy on the nights we visited, but not crowded. Seemed to be a happy mix of campers and locals - in fact, we agreed that it was exactly the sort of establishment that we wished was *our* local. It's been a long while since I can remember spending a evening or two in a pub this nice, and I honestly don't think that I've *ever* been in a pub that was so friendly and genuine. Very much hoping to be back next season, and hopefully for a bit longer next time.
We called in without a booking & they happy seated my daughter & I & our two poodle's in the dog friendly area even though we had just had a 7mile walk across the peaks, so we're sweaty, wet & in walking boots, albeit clean. We had a latte & a bowl of chips (possibly the best chips ever) each & then had to have a pint before we left, the friendly staff petted the poodle's along with giving them a few doggie treats. The service, the welcome, food & beer was excellent, we will definitely return when we are in the area or just passing by..
Omg, the food here is amazing! Everything was fresh and warm. Service was great, staff are friendly and attentive! I asked for a cheese sandwich with my soup and even though it wasnt on the menu, they accomodated my request. You must try the food here if you come to visit the peak district! We had the corriander and cumin soup the kids fish goujons, which my son absolutely demolished and the chicken wrap. Best chips we've ever eaten. Thank you everyone at the sportsman!
purely a review for the pub aspect of this Inn. Was a very welcome site after Hiking up Kinder Scout. The Ale was fantastic and the staff are really friendly. As for the pub, its a stunning old building that is beautifully decorated with a traditional cosey feel inside
Great menu for meat eaters, pescatarians, vegetarians and vegans. We enjoyed the food so much we returned the next night. Although we were full we couldn't resist their Baileys Brioche - it's absolutely the best bread and butter pudding I've had (and yes I've tried lots).
Been on a 8 hour walk and the helpful friendly staff couldn't do enough for me. They seemed like they enjoyed their job and working with one another. The Sunday roast was excellent, the room was more than adequate for a walker, clean and very comfortable bed. Cooked breakfast of great quality, although continental could do with a slightly better selection. I couldn't do the walk on the original date due to weather and there was no cost or problem to change it. Would return again.
Excellent food, fresh warm and very tasty. Great location in the High Peak with parking right outside the door. Friendly staff and a superb selection of drinks. Highly recommended for Sunday lunch or an evening meal.
